Keeping It Real: Valentine's Date

Someone, who I should really stop hanging out with because she keeps making my to-write list even longer than it already is!, suggested that I write a book on Valentine's Dates. I'm seriously contemplating the idea. I think it would be a series of short stories, probably minor characters from books already published. It would only be one day, February 14. Here are some of the characters that I'm thinking and their possible story:

1. Andy Garrity (Nick's father who is a widow)-He's going to be set up on a blind date. Of course, Abby and his granddaughters will be there to visit, maybe even Katy and Jesse.

2. Meg and Mark (Colie's sister and brother-in-law, they'll eventually get their own book)-They've been trying to get pregnant and today's a big news day for them.

3. J.P. and Bri (Jules' brother and Bentley's sister)-They're out for a date before baby #2 arrives in March.

4. Lee and Miranda Maverick (they're new, this is like a prequel to my country music singers book coming April 2016)-Lee and Miranda are both big country singers, married since before they were stars. Their relationship is at a point where someone has to make a decision, will Valentine's Day be that day?

I'd really like for it to be five stories so who else would you like to see. Remember, minor characters!

Side note: Happy third birthday, my sweet, beautiful, smart daughter!!!

My Favorite What If Excerpt

Maybe it’s the atmosphere or maybe it’s my hormones, more than likely it’s the alcohol, but without thinking twice, I march over to Sloan. She doesn’t even see me coming as she’s still dancing with her eyes closed. My hands reach out and grasp the soft, cotton material of her dress. Her eyes open and her mouth drops in surprise. I don’t give her a chance to talk. Not losing my nerve this time, I lean forward and press my lips against hers as my hands grip her hips. Immediately, Sloan kisses me back, her lips parting and inviting my tongue in. Her hands slip around my neck and I pull her as close to me as I can. My left hand goes to her long, honey hair, pulling on it and wanting more than just this moment.

Tilting my head to the side, I let Smitty kiss me deeper and my stomach burns with desire. It’s been awhile since I’ve been kissed and even longer since someone kissed me like this. I’ll forgive him for not doing this earlier since this kiss is surely much more passionate than the liplock we would’ve shared on the shuttle bus.

The band starts to play again and my hips start moving back and forth. Judging from the reaction in his pants and the alcohol on his breath, it’s probably not a good idea. Reluctantly, I pull my head away from him and grin. “Have a good night, Smitty.”

Keeping It Real: How Did You Write a Book?

I get this question all the time and honestly, I don't know how to answer! It makes me stop and think how do I have time to write a book. I will let you in on a little secret... my house isn't never clean, sometimes I let my kid watch a few episodes in a row of Sid the Science Kid so I can beta read, and the concept of exercise is completely foreign to me. So yeah, I guess that's how I have time to write a book. I'm finally ahead, although it seems like the lists of projects is never ending, not that I'm complaining but my brain literally never stops thinking of new characters, story lines, and dramatics for the next book or the one after that or the one after that... My daughter's birthday is next Monday so the next week and a half is hectic but then I swear, I'm going to kick back, get back to walking (I told AR that her birthday present was starting on her birthday, Mommy's going to get healthy again), and just enjoy summer, my family, and the outside as much as possible. So yeah, I guess that's how I have time to write???

Keeping It Real: The Sexy Parts

I know personally that one of my books has a review that says, "I missed the sexy parts." At the same time, I've been slammed for writing insta-love.  Now, my question to you: Does the sex scenes take away from the story? In my opinion, if I've published a book and labeled it "erotica" then yes, I'd be pissed if there's no sexy parts. But if it's in contemporary romance, then it's kind of wide open as to what it'll be. What's a girl supposed to do? If you want sexy parts, there's gotta be chemistry and a quick hook up... or a super long book. But if you don't want insta-love, just insta-whores, then there's no sexy parts.
