Saturday Morning Characters: Avalon Jennison from Lost Avalon by K.S. Thomas

I am so excited about this morning's character! It's Avalon Jennison from Lost Avalon by K.S. Thomas. Let me just tell you how much I love Ava, Blaise, and of course, K.S.!

Lost Avalon

Introduction to Avalon Jennison

Hi K.S.! Thanks for hanging out with me this morning. Tell me a little bit about yourself and Avalon.

Well, I’m a mother by day, author by night and twenty-four/seven coffee addict. That about covers it. Avalon, or Ava, is the heroine of my latest book. I love her…but we tortured the crap out of each other on this one.

Tell us about my new favorite book, Lost Avalon.

Lost Avalon is basically about two people who have to learn that loving each other isn’t enough if they can’t learn to love themselves first. That’s the straightforward version…the actual story is really pretty messy…here goes:

Blaise and Ava have been best friends since they were kids. Having grown up right next door to each other, their lives have been permanently bound together by some pretty intense family drama and it’s played a huge part in pushing them to get as far away from their pasts as possible.

Fast-forward ten years and they’re all grown up and living life by rock star standards ;-) Blaise’s band, Finding Nolan, has become a huge success all thanks to Ava, their manager. But while their professional lives are peaking, they’re about to bottom out when it comes to their relationship…

Hm…not sure how brief that was, lol.

Do you relate to Ava?

I definitely related to Ava in a lot of ways. I fell for ‘the tortured soul’ guy plenty of times when I was younger. I don’t recommend it, lol.

Is Ava based off someone you know in real life?

Not specifically, no. But I did pull from some of my own experiences to create her.

In real life, would you hang out with Avalon?

Definitely. We’d be hanging out regularly, consuming large doses of coffee and Nutella brownies while discussing music, men and the places and people we’ve seen on our travels.

Can I just say, Nutella brownies sound a-ma-zing!

Why do you love/hate this Ava?

To be perfectly honest, she drove me a little crazy at times. She’s stubborn and fiercely independent and doesn’t really know how to let go and depend on someone else. But… that’s kind of what I love about her, too.

Anything else we need to know about her?

You already know about her coffee and Nutella addiction…so, I think that’s about it. Oh, there is that one thing about that one guy that happened that one time…but it’s in the book, so why bother telling it twice ;-)

Interview with Avalon Jennison

Hey Ava, I feel like I already know you since I've read your story, but tell me a little bit about yourself.

Let’s see. For starters, I prefer being in the background rather than being the center of attention…so this interview business…really not digging it.

Well, okay. Then let's start off easy...

Word- Chocolate. Because it makes me say ‘yum’ which is just as much fun as saying chocolate…

Color- Violet. Reminds me of these flowers my mother planted one year. It was the only time I ever saw her do anything in the yard other than mow the grass. Every spring after, I waited to see if she would plant them again, but she never did. Anyway, they were gorgeous.

Food- Anything with Nutella on it…okay, maybe not anything…but most things. Or just straight Nutella works, too. And why? I’m sorry…have you had Nutella?

Drink- Coffee…because it goes great with Nutella.

Subject in school- Math. I liked having problems I could actually solve.

Where did you grow up? Just outside of L.A. in a shit part of town not worth going back to…

Tell us about your family…

Ha. Okay… Well, my dad walked out when I was nine, so I don’t really count him as part of the family anymore. My mom is my mom. Tragically flawed and entirely lovable at the same time. I have four younger siblings. My brother Adam is closest to me in age and we’re three years apart. After him my parents spaced kids out a little less with Aaron being born a year and a half later, and then the twins, Alex and Addison, coming in last. There’s only eleven months between them and Aaron. Honestly, I don’t know how that woman’s uterus is still intact. And, yeah…there’s definitely something happening there with the A’s. I just don’t know what. Must have been my dad’s idea because anytime I ask my mom all she does is shrug and say, “Why? You got a problem with the name Avalon?” No. No, I don’t.

How did your last relationship end?

Lee and I broke up because he’s an asshole. Yeah. That pretty much sums it up.

Tell us your thoughts on love.

I’ve always known Blaise and I were destined to be together for life. Wait, destined sounds too romantic. Bound together by all the complicated shit in our past we don’t want to bother explaining to someone new is probably more like it. Anyway, beyond that, I never considered love or marriage. Definitely not kids. With Blaise in my life, there wasn’t ever enough room to commit to anyone else for anything serious. Of course that was before. Things are different now…

Well thanks for stopping by Ava, I'll let you get back to Blaise. *wiggles eyebrows* Check out all of K.S.'s links because you do NOT want to miss Lost Avalon!

Stay tuned for more of the Burning Lovesick Series! The sequel, Burst Into Flame, will be released late this fall so check back for the cover reveal and official release date! The Burning Lovesick Series will consist of four total books: Book #3 will be Patrick Doyle's story, Book #4 will be Jeremiah's, and there's a potential Book #5 which will be Ryan and Abby (and Nick and Jesse in the fire academy!). When the time comes, my readers will decide if Book #5 will be written. There's also the chance of a spinoff series with a new character that is introduced in Burst Into Flame.

You'll also want to keep your eyes open for a new book I'll be publishing this fall about hot baseball players. The book is titled The Right Pitch and you'll be introduced to a new book boyfriend, Grant Adamson! In case you ever wonder where I get my inspiration, you'll want to check out my Pinterest page for some major man candy.

And for those of you that can't wait until Burst Into Flame sequel, here's a little excerpt for you and I'm looking for beta readers. If you are interested, please fill out this form and I'll be in contact.

“Last call!” the bartender yelled to the few people still drinking. Murph left a couple hours earlier, leaving Jesse and Leah to better acquaint themselves. Jesse settled his tab with the bartender and turned to the blonde beside him. She leaned against him and went in for a kiss. He dodged it and put a kiss on her cheek. It had been a fun night drinking and dancing, not having to hide his affection in public like he did at home but he wasn’t going to let it go any further.

“Thanks for hanging out,” Jesse said as he tried to step around her.

“I had a great time,” she whispered in his ear. Her warm breath on his neck made his hair stand up. She pulled his earlobe slowly between her teeth.

“Mmm…” Her lips on his ear felt good and he knew she’d be down for anything he wanted. It had been over a year since he’d had sex but no, he had a woman waiting for him at home even though he didn’t know when they’d actually cross that bridge. Leah’s lips nipped his earlobe and he didn’t stop her. Jesse muttered, “I need to go.”

She nodded and mumbled, “Me too.”

She took his hand and walked outside with him. Jesse followed to her car, not that she was in any condition to drive. Her hips swayed from left to right and Jesse felt all the blood rushing between his legs. Taking an extra long step, he adjusted himself fighting the urge to push her against the car in front of him and have his way with her.

Her car lights flashed as she pressed the key fob and she turned around kissing him quickly. Lost in the moment, Jesse’s lips met hers as he ran his hands over her body then moved them under her skirt. It’d been too long since he’d felt a woman’s touch like this. He wanted, no, needed this. Stop, Jesse, you’ve got a good girl at home, his conscience told him.  Finally, he broke the kiss and stepped back putting her an arm’s length away.

“I really need to go.”

Leah stuck out her bottom lip and pouted. “You led me on all night and I don’t even get anything?”

He kissed her cheek and politely tried to brush her off and said, “You seem like a great girl.”

Leah moved in for another kiss, her hand sliding over his jeans where he was throbbing inside.

“Let me prove it to you.”

Jesse jumped, surprised by her sudden movement and pushed her hand away. “Oh I believe you could, but...I have to get home to my family.”

Leah let go of him and frowned. “You’re married?”

Saturday Morning Characters: Martha Bigalow from Tales of a Traveler Series by N.J. Layouni

Another Saturday and that means another Character Interview! Today we'll be meeting Martha Bigalow from the Tales of a Traveler series by N.J. Layouni.

Introduction to Martha Bigalow

Hi N.J. Tell me a little bit about yourself and Martha.

Hello! I’m a stay-at-home mum, and I’ve been writing down stories ever since I learned that letters could be made into words. I’m married, have two kids, and I live in Lytham in the UK. The character I’m want to introduce you to is Martha Bigalow, my female MC in the ‘Tales of a Traveler’ series.

In your words, give us a brief summary of your book.

It’s the story of a modern day woman who somehow manages to slide across time into a medieval world.

Do you relate to Martha?

I can totally relate to Martha. She’s a normal kind of girl-complete with a few squidgy bits! Like her, before I met my hubby, I had the habit of falling for the wrong kind of blokes. Oh, and I swear and cuss a lot too, just like Martha.

Is Martha based off someone you know in real life?
Nope. She came out of my head fully formed and raring to go. The only thing I chose was her name.

In real life, would you hang out with her?

We’d definitely be best buddies. She makes me laugh.

What would you two discuss over drinks?

Life, the Universe. And men, of course! :)

Why do you love this character?

More than anything else, I love Martha’s humor.
Anything else we need to know about her?

She’s not particularly brave, but she’s a tiger when roused. A fiercely loyal friend. I’d definitely want her in my corner.

Interview with Martha Bigalow

Hi Martha! Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

Hello. I’m Martha. I’m twenty-nine years old and I live in Littlemere--that’s in the beautiful Lake District--with my Aunt Lulu. Well, I used to before I fell off that fecking rock and ending up in Erde! But that’s another story. In my former life, I worked as an assistant in a dress shop. Not my dream job, but it paid the bills.

We’ll start off easy with your favorites. Tell us your favorite and why:
Word- ‘Feck’. I say it all the time. It’s an Irish cuss word, not nearly so offensive as its bigger cousin, but it can be used in all the same ways.
Color- Green.
Food- Chocolate! That’s a food, right?
Drink-Coffee or wine, depending on the time of day!
Subject in school-English literature. So many wonderful stories!

Where did you grow up?

In the Lake District in my aunt’s small cottage which is on the outskirts of the town of Littlemere. Such a beautiful place. I never grew tired of walking those hills. sigh*

Tell us about your family…
My parents died in a car crash when I was three years old. I don’t remember them much, just the general feeling of being loved. I still keep a bottle of my mum’s favorite perfume on my dressing table. If I close my eyes and take a sniff, I can almost see her, but the memories are too brief and fragmented to give me a clear picture of her.
I’m an only child, and after my parents died, my aunt Lulu took me in and raised me as her own. Oh, btw, her real name is Aunt Clooney, but when I was little, I couldn’t pronounce that, so I called her Lulu. The name stuck. Lulu is very fond of ‘sayings’. You know, such as ‘there’ll be tears before bedtime’? She can always be relied upon to have a saying to suit every occasion, bless her heart!

Why did your last relationship end?

Oh, my goodness. I really don’t want to talk about Tony. Let’s just say he’s a two-timing fecker and leave at that. Is that okay?

Tell us your thoughts on love.

I’ve always believed in love, but for the longest time, I didn’t think love believed in me. Then I met my beautiful man and now it all makes sense...marriage, kids, all of it. Yep. I’m a believer.

Thanks N. J. and Martha for stopping by today! We've also got an awesome giveaway going on. Go like N.J.'s Facebook page then come back and comment with what number like you are. Next Saturday, we'll pick one lucky winner to get a copy of N.J's e-book!

Saturday Morning Characters: Rosemary Spelling from Murderous Lies by Chantel Rhondeau

Welcome to another edition of Saturday Morning Characters! Today we'll get to know Rosemary Spelling from Murderous Lies by Chantel Rhondeau.

murderousliesIntroduction to Rosemary from Chantel Rhondeau

Hi Chantel! Thanks for visiting with me today. Please tell me a little bit about Rosemary Spelling.

I’ve been writing for the last eight years, but started publishing two years ago when I found my true writing love—Romantic Suspense! Rosemary Spelling is the heroine of my new release, Murderous Lies. Her story came to me in a dream and she had such a strong voice, she just wouldn’t let me go, even though I had books that should have been written before hers.

Tell us more about Murderous Lies.

Rosemary has to face Max, the man she has always believed murdered her sister, when he is exonerated and released from prison. Her heart is in conflict, because Max is also her ex-fiancĂ© and the only man she’s ever really loved. When her life is threatened, the police believe Max is back up to his old tricks, but Rose questions that. Max is determined to find the real killer and win her back.

Do you relate to Rosemary? If so, how?

Rose is very strong and practical, probably more so than I am. She works hard to do what needs to be done. I really admire her.

Is Rosemary based off someone you know in real life?

I take character traits that I see in people and also a lot of traits from myself, but my characters are never based on any one person.

In real life, would you and Rosemary hang out?

I like Rose, but she’s much too busy trying to take care of her mother and keep her life from falling apart to hang out. I do think we’d be friends, though.

What would you two discuss over drinks?

Cats. Rose’s furry little friend is the only character I’ve ever had based on a real-life ‘person.’ Gizmo is my cat in real life and my writing buddy, and he’s Rose’s best friend in the book.

Why do you love this character?

I love Rose’s determination to keep pushing forward no matter the odds stacked against her.

Anything else we need to know about her?

Before her sister’s murder, Rose had plans to become a music teacher. She had to give that dream up when her mom had a mental breakdown, but she still plays the piano beautifully.

Interview with Rosemary Spelling

Rosemary Spelling

Hi Rosemary! We’ll start off easy with your favorites. Tell us your favorite and why:

Color- White – it is clean and uncomplicated

Food- Well, Max made me delicious orange chicken. I love anything, really, that isn’t a crappy frozen meal.

Drink- I mostly drink water, but I love an occasional beer.

Subject in school- Music, definitely. I wanted to be a music teacher, but that dream died with my sister.

Where did you grow up?

A cute little house on the lake in Clarkston, Oregon. My life seemed so magical as a kid and teenager. When Mom had her mental breakdown and burned it to the ground, I had to move into a place that isn’t so nice.

Tell us about your family…

My baby sister was a brat, but I loved her dearly. I’m the one who found her body, and it still haunts me. I miss her. Dad couldn’t handle the stress and flaked out, got himself a new family. It’s just Mom and I now. I had to put her in an institution so that I can work without worrying about her hurting herself while I’m gone, but I keep hoping one day she will snap out of her delusions.

How did your last relationship end?

Max is my only real relationship. After he was arrested for Sage’s murder, I never spoke to him again until he showed back up at town.

Tell us your thoughts on love.

I want all those things, I really do. But I don’t have time for anything but work right now. Luckily, my cat snuggles with me every night, so I’m not too lonely.

Is it true you were going to break off your engagement to Max in order to go to college?

Yes, it’s true. Stupid, right? As a teenager, I thought getting out of Clarkston and following my dreams was more important than love. I feel horrible for hurting Max—when he first came back to town, I told him the truth and it crushed him.

Thanks Rosemary and Chantel for stopping by today! For a limited time, Murderous Lies is on sale for only 99 cents!

Good Saturday Morning! Today we'll be meeting  Bipp from David Matthew Almond's novel Secrets of the Elders. Today is a day of first! It's my first male author to participate in Saturday Morning Characters AND my first time to interview a gnome!

Introduction to Bipp from David Matthew Almond

Hi there David and welcome to Saturday Morning Characters! Tell us a little bit about yourself and Bipp who I'm excited to meet.

‘ello there! I am and have always been an avid reader of all genres. If it is good I will give it a whirl. Since I was little I have wanted to write stories, there has always been that unyielding itch below the surface that keeps bubbling up again and begging to be scratched. As generally happens, life got in the way and I spent the last 19 years working in IT and then running restaurants with ever growing responsibility and shrinking time. The last several years I committed to making the time to write and it has been the most fulfilling experience of my life.

Bipp is one of the supporting characters in Secrets of the Elders. He is a three foot tall gnome engineer who is lost in the wilds after a series of unfortunate circumstances. However, this works out to his favor, as he meets the human who will become his best friend, Logan Walker.

Sounds interesting, tell me more about Secrets of the Elders.

Secrets of the Elders is a tale of awakenings more than anything else. The story is an epic fantasy about two brothers who are set on a perilous journey to warn the capitol of an impending attack, only to find out the dangerous truth about their existence in Vanidriell. The entire story takes place inside the planet of Acadia, where humanity was forced to flee, after the jotnar invasion on the surface over two and a half centuries before.

I know he's a gnome, but do you relate to Bipp?

Bipp is a relatable little gnome. He is funny, enjoying everything life has to offer, and loyal to a fault. He’s not much like me. Where I see dark clouds, Bipp sees rain for the flowers.

Is this character based off someone you know in real life?

What do you mean? He is based off himself, Bilfrillbipp Bobblefuzz, but his friend’s call him Bipp for short. He is a gnome engineer from the town of Dudje that I met traveling the wilds of Vanidriell.

In real life, would you hang out with this character?

Me and Bipp actually hang out quite a bit between books. He is a riot to have a couple drinks with, though he does partake a bit too much at times. When you pop in the pub, he is the gnome you are sure to find dancing a jig on the bar with a pint in one hand and a ham “sammich” in the other.

Why do you love this character?

It is kind of hard not to love Bipp, he’s just so damned hilarious to me. Whenever I am writing a scene, he tends to pop up with the most random actions. For me as a writer, he is the one character I just cannot control! Oh… here he comes now. David holds a finger up to his lips, winking with a smirk as Bipp enters the room. The gnome has done his level best to clean up for the interview. He is wearing a grey tunic and brown wool breeches, with shiny polished and buckled black leather boots that come up to his stubby knees. His mane of silver-grey hair has been neatly combed into a wavy point, leaving him with an almost Elvis impersonator style, signs that the gnome used a bit too much hair gel in the dressing room. He even combed his thick overgrown silver sideburns and eyebrows neatly in place. Bipp shuffles into his seat with a wide grin, he looks as if he is going to explode from the excitement of being interviewed by Lyssa, who stares at the nervous gnome with amusement laced around her infectious smile. With a soft giggle he hands Lyssa a crooked, white, sun daisy that looks as though it had been carried around a bit too long.

Interview with Bipp

Hi Bipp, is it okay if I call you Bipp? I don't think I can pronounce your full name!

Name’s Bilfrillbipp Bobblefuzz! I am the head of the Dudje engineer’s guild, specializing in all things mechanical. Lately I find myself adventuring through the ruins of Ul’kor with my new pal Logan. Never did think I’d be one for such things, but it sure does get my heart pumping! Plus, there is no way I am leaving my pal Logan out there all alone to figure out what those Elder’s in Fal are really up to.

I've never interview a gnome before so you'll have to forgive me but can you tell me some of your favorites?

Word- Garbanzo! It’s funny on the tongue isn’t it? Say it with me, garbanzo, garrr-ban-zooo! Bipp chuckles to himself, rubbing his oversized bulbous nose.

Color- Red, and not cause of those funny hats you human folk think we all wear! It just reminds me of the crimson lilies that grow in my da’s mushroom garden, makes me smile.

Food- Yes please! David shakes his head at Bipp, who blushes slightly and shuffles in his seat. Oh sorry, I thought you were offering. Nothing finer than my Aunt Tilly’s honeyed ham, makes me drool just to think about. I brought some for you as a gift, it’s in the dressing room. Better watch that assistant of yours though, I saw him eyeing it something fierce before I came in here.

Drink- Scrum! Five pints a night is sure to keep you healthy!

Subject in school- Hmmm… it is hard to choose, I loved university, some of the best years those were. If I had to choose between ancient lore, linguistics, mechanical engineering, trap mastery, mining for dummies, Acadian script or… Bipp stops speaking, lost in thought running over all the subjects he has mastered over the years. David gives him a little nudge and the gnome blinks, snapping out of his reverie and scratches his round nose again with a sheepish grin. What was the question again?

Why did your last relationship end?

That would be Ambrosia Quikle. Ah, she was a lovely lass, fair skinned and sharp as a whip. Was about all she could take finding me passed out in the turnip beds behind her apartment for the umpteenth time. I always thought if I only made those last couple steps it wouldn’t have ended but… eh you know how it goes, the one that got away.

Thanks Bipp and David for stopping by! I can now officially say that I've interviewed and met a gnome. I might even go out for a drink with these guys! Be sure to check out David's book Secrets from the Elders and follow him on all his media channels:

The World of Acadia
